Junior Volunteer Swim Team Coach
Lake of the Woods Barracudas Swim Team is accepting applications from enthusiastic individuals to serve as Junior Coaches for the 2026 swim season. Positions are available for up to six Junior Coaches.
About the Position
A Junior Coach on the Barracudas Swim Team is defined as a current high school student and swimmer, who is actively helping the coaching staff during the summer league. The Junior Coach position is a volunteer position. Junior Coaches are expected to do their best to attend all meets, team functions, and agreed upon practice times.
Requirements of the Position
- At least 15 years of age
- Must swim on the LOW Barracudas swim team throughout the current season
- Current certification in American Red Cross Lifeguarding, First Aid, and CPR preferred
Essential Functions of the Position
- Attendance at scheduled swim meets, swim team staff meetings, staff trainings, and other team functions as specified by the Head Coach.
- Supervise swimmers; create and maintain a clean and safe environment for swim team participants
- Familiarize yourself with daily workout plan and assist in carrying it out
- Be prepared to provide in water instruction and demonstration
- Attend and assist as needed with swim team special events and fundraisers
- Complete adherence to instruction/guidance from the Head Coach and team rules
- Demonstrate the ability to communicate clearly with swimmers, coaches, and parents
- Observe all safety and operational requirements of the facilities
- Attend in-person training session
- In difficult situations, refer swimmers or parents to the Head Coach to resolve conflicts. Do not attempt to rectify or solve the issue
Key Responsibilities and Behavioral Guidelines:
- Safety & Well-being: Place swimmer safety above winning, maintain a zero-tolerance policy for bullying or abuse, and supervise swimmers at all times.
- Role Modeling: Exhibit professionalism, wear appropriate attire, and model good sportsmanship.
- Positive Coaching: Offer encouraging feedback, instruct in a positive manner, and avoid derogatory comments.
- Professional Boundaries: Maintain a respectful, non-peer relationship with athletes, avoiding intimate or inappropriate contact.LOW Barracudas
- Respect for Others: Treat swimmers, officials, parents, and opponents with respect.
- Drug/Alcohol Policy: No use or possession of tobacco, vape, or alcohol products while acting as a coach
- Respect the Team: You represent the team and in doing so, should refrain from negatively commenting or posting about the team or its coaches in public arenas.
